Asthma
It is a disease that causes the airways to swell and narrow. This causes wheezing, breathlessness, chest tightness and coughing occur.
Causes:
- Asthma is caused by inflammation (swelling) of the airways. When an asthma attack occurs, the muscles surrounding the airways become tight and the lining becomes inflamed. This reduces the amount of air that can pass by them.
- In people with sensitive airways, asthma symptoms can be triggered by inhalation of substances called allergens or triggers.
