Soma or cell body: is the most voluminous part of the neuron. Here you can see a spherical structure called the nucleus. It contains the information that directs the activity of the neuron. Furthermore, in the soma it is the cytoplasm. Therein other structures that are important to the operation of the neuron are located.

Dendrites: short extensions are originating neural soma. Its function is to receive impulses from other neurons and send them to the soma of the neuron.

Multiple sclerosis

Multiple sclerosis

It is an autoimmune disease that affects the brain and spinal cord (central nervous system).

Causes

Multiple sclerosis (MS) affects women more than men. The disorder is most commonly diagnosed between 20 and 40 years of age, but can be seen at any age. MS is caused by damage to the myelin sheath. This sheath is the protective covering that surrounds nerve cells. When this nerve covering is damaged, nerve impulses are slowed or stopped.

Nerve damage is caused by inflammation. Inflammation occurs when the body's own immune cells attack the nervous system. This can occur along any area of the brain, optic nerve or spinal cord. It is not known exactly what causes MS. The most common belief is that the culprits are a virus, a genetic defect, or both. Environmental factors may also play a role. You are slightly more likely to develop the disease if you have a family history of MS or if you live in a part of the world where the disease is more common.
